Day 1: Village Paths, a Countryside Welcome
9:00 AM: Leave Ho Chi Minh City Behind
Your driver collects you from your hotel in Ho Chi Minh for the journey to Can Tho. As the city gives way to waterways, cultivated fields and village gardens, the days ahead begin to take shape.
Early Afternoon: Your First Taste of the Mekong
Arrive at your countryside retreat for a Southern Vietnamese lunch. Fresh herbs and dishes placed at the centre of the table invite you to share your first meal in the Delta.
Check into your room and take time to unpack, refresh and enjoy the gardens before meeting your local host.
3 pm - our host pick up you to discover Mekong Local Life And Rural Village Ride
Scenic Village Ride: You will see real life happening along the water where children go swimming, women wash clothes while they chat and laugh, old men smile and nod as you pass. It's an invitation to see how people actually live, love, and belong to this river.
Local Fruits Discovery: Bike through riverside fruit gardens where golden mangoes, spiky jackfruits, star apples, and pineapples ‘tempt’ you with their seasonal fragrance and flavor. Your guide will share how farmers grow and take care of these tasty fruits.
Rice Fields Experience: Ride past rice paddy fields, taste seasonal fruits, and immerse yourself in the smallest, gentlest moments that stay with you long after everything else blurs.
7:30 pm - Enjoy the Curated Mekong dinner
Meals:
A welcoming Mekong lunch and Southern Vietnamese dinner.
Your stay:
Boutique countryside retreat, Can Tho.
Day 2: The River, Known Personally
Early Morning -6:30 am: Meet Your Local Host
Meet your host at your accommodation and travel by traditional sampan journey. A small boat brings you close to the river’s working life, with your host helping you understand what unfolds around you.
Cai Rang Floating Marke t: Breakfast Among the Trading Boats
At Cai Rang, discover boats carrying produce, floating kitchens and the routines of a community whose livelihoods follow the river.
Enjoy warm rice noodle soup and Vietnamese coffee served on the water as boats move around you. Your host explains the produce displayed on poles and the exchanges between traders, giving context to the morning’s activity. When circumstances allow and traders welcome a visit, step aboard a fruit boat for a closer glimpse of the goods and life carried within it.
A Family Rice Noodle factory: The Craft Behind Your Breakfast
Visit a family workshop to discover how rice becomes noodles, from preparing the mixture to steaming, drying and cutting the sheets.
Meet the people behind the process and, when production allows, try a step yourself. The bowl you enjoyed on the river takes on new meaning as you see the skill behind a familiar daily food.
Small Canals: Life Along the Water: Continue into narrower waterways, where tropical greenery, gardens and waterside homes draw closer.
From the sampan, notice the ways families use the riverbank: a boat tied beside a house, plants growing at the water’s edge, a small landing connecting home and canal. Your host helps you read these everyday details.
Local Cacao Farm: Walk beneath the shade of a family cacao garden and discover how fresh cacao is transformed into locally crafted chocolate. Taste cacao at its source and hear the personal story of the family whose passion keeps this special tradition alive.
Tropical Fruit Experience: End the journey with fresh pineapple, mango and seasonal tropical fruits in the peaceful countryside. A simple, generous moment that captures the flavors, warmth and unhurried spirit of the Mekong.
Afternoon: Time to Make Yourself at Home
Return to your retreat for an afternoon at leisure. Relax beside the pool, wander through the gardens or find a shaded corner with a book. There is time to enjoy the setting and the quiet pleasure of having nowhere else to be. Dinner is served at the retreat, bringing the day to a relaxed close.
Overnight at your boutique countryside retreat.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 3: U Minh Thuong National Park and Vi Thanh Agriculture Market
Around 7:00 AM: Set Out With Your Local Host
Leave your retreat by car for a full day exploring the agricultural landscapes and wetlands beyond Can Tho.
Your first stop is Vị Thanh agricultur market, where a morning market brings together produce and people from the surrounding countryside.
Vị Thanh Agricultural Market: Breakfast Where the Farmers Gather
Walk among displays of herbs, vegetables and seasonal fruit, with your host introducing ingredients and explaining their place in local kitchens.
Pause to speak with vendors when their work allows, then settle into a nearby breakfast spot for a local dish and Vietnamese coffee. Seated among marketgoers, you experience the market as part of the morning rather than a brief stop along the route.
U Minh Thuong National Park: Into the Wetland Forest
Deep within U Minh Thuong National Park, a rarely visited wilderness of flooded forests and hidden waterways awaits. Glide through emerald channels and watch for macaques, purple swamphens and other wildlife moving through the wetlands.
With few visitors and nature still largely untouched, this feels less like sightseeing and more like entering a secret world of the Mekong.
A Family Table: Lunch in the Countryside
Pause for a home-cooked lunch prepared by a local family. Seasonal ingredients and regional dishes are brought to the table for sharing, offering a welcoming place to rest after the morning’s exploration.
Late Afternoon: Return to Your Retreat
Travel back to Can Tho with time to refresh before dinner. After a day of markets, forest waterways and countryside hospitality, enjoy your final evening at the retreat.
Meals: Market breakfast with Vietnamese coffee, family-prepared lunch and dinner.
Your stay: Boutique countryside retreat, Can Tho.
Day 4: Slowly Farewell
Morning: Breakfast and Time for Yourself
Enjoy breakfast at your accommodation and let the morning unfold slowly.
Take a gentle bicycle ride by your own through nearby village lanes, spend time in the gardens or linger over coffee. These final hours offer time to appreciate the countryside that has become familiar over the past three days.
